SphygmoCor is the technology behind the concept of "vascular age". The XCEL system measures central aortic blood pressure non-invasively and carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) — the gold-standard index of arterial stiffness, cited in more than 6,000 scientific publications and used in landmark hypertension trials.

Central pressure often diverges from arm-cuff readings, and stiff arteries predict cardiovascular events independently of cholesterol. In a longevity clinic, presenting a client their vascular age — measured, not estimated — is one of the most motivating moments of a check-up and a strong anchor for follow-up programs.
